Koro Technical and Management InstituteThe National Diploma in Animal Management at Koro Technical and Management Institute is a competency-based programme designed to equip students with the practical skills, scientific knowledge, and professional competencies required for sustainable livestock production and animal resource management in Uganda. The programme prepares graduates to manage livestock enterprises, promote animal health and welfare, improve productivity, and contribute to food security, employment, and economic development.The curriculum combines theoretical instruction with extensive practical training in animal husbandry, livestock production, animal nutrition, breeding and genetics, animal health management, pasture and forage production, dairy and beef production, poultry management, piggery, small ruminant production, farm business management, agricultural extension, entrepreneurship, and animal product processing. Students also undertake industrial training and field attachments to gain hands-on experience in commercial farms, veterinary facilities, research institutions, and agribusiness enterprises.Upon successful completion, graduates will be qualified to work as Animal Management Officers, Livestock Farm Managers, Animal Production Technicians, Dairy and Poultry Supervisors, Extension Officers, Farm Consultants, Agribusiness Entrepreneurs, and Project Officers in government ministries, local governments, veterinary and livestock agencies, NGOs, commercial farms, research institutions, and private sector organizations. The programme also provides a strong foundation for further studies in animal science, veterinary technology, agriculture, and related disciplines.The programme is aligned with Uganda's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework and supports the country's National Development Plan by producing skilled professionals capable of enhancing livestock productivity, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and strengthening Uganda's livestock sector for improved livelihoods and national economic growth.
