National Diploma in Electrical Engineering
Koro Technical and Management InstituteThe National Diploma in Electrical Engineering at Koro Technical and Management Institute is a competency-based programme designed to develop skilled electrical engineering technicians equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required to support Uganda’s growing energy, manufacturing, construction, telecommunications, and industrial sectors.
The programme provides learners with a strong foundation in electrical systems, electrical installation, power generation and distribution, electronics, electrical machines, control systems, instrumentation, renewable energy technologies, computer-aided design, and industrial automation. Through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory practice, workshops, and industrial training, students gain hands-on experience in designing, installing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
The curriculum is aligned with Uganda’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework and responds to national priorities in electricity access, renewable energy development, industrialization, and digital transformation. Students are trained in electrical safety, wiring regulations, occupational health and safety, entrepreneurship, project management, and professional ethics to enable them to deliver quality and safe electrical services.
Graduates of the programme can pursue careers as Electrical Engineering Technicians, Electrical Installation Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians, Power Systems Assistants, Solar Energy Technicians, Industrial Electrical Technicians, Control and Automation Technicians, and Technical Officers in government agencies, utility companies, construction firms, manufacturing industries, engineering consultancies, NGOs, and private enterprises.
The programme also provides a pathway for further studies in electrical engineering and related fields while promoting innovation, self-employment, and entrepreneurship among graduates to contribute to Uganda’s sustainable economic development.
