The National Diploma in Civil Engineering at Koro Technical and Management Institute is a competency-based programme designed to equip students with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional competencies required in Uganda's construction and infrastructure sector.
The programme prepares graduates to plan, design, supervise, construct, and maintain civil engineering works, including buildings, roads, bridges, water supply systems, drainage structures, and other public infrastructure.
The curriculum integrates engineering theory with extensive practical training in surveying, engineering drawing, structural design, construction materials, geotechnical engineering, highway engineering, hydraulics, quantity surveying, computer-aided design (CAD), project management, occupational health and safety, and entrepreneurship. Students also undertake industrial training to gain hands-on experience in real construction environments.
Upon successful completion, graduates will be qualified to work as Civil Engineering Technicians, Site Supervisors, Works Inspectors, Survey Assistants, Materials Technicians, Quantity Surveying Assistants, and Project Assistants in government ministries, local governments, construction companies, consulting engineering firms, NGOs, and private enterprises.
The programme also provides a strong foundation for further studies in civil engineering and related disciplines.The programme is aligned with Uganda's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework and supports the country's National Development Plan by producing skilled professionals capable of contributing to sustainable infrastructure development and socio-economic transformation.
