The National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Koro Technical and Management Institute is a competency-based programme designed to equip students with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional competencies required in Uganda's manufacturing, industrial, energy, automotive, and engineering sectors. The programme prepares graduates to design, install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and manage mechanical systems, machines, and industrial equipment used across various industries.
The curriculum combines engineering theory with extensive practical training in engineering drawing, workshop technology, manufacturing processes, machine design, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics, welding and fabrication, computer-aided design (CAD), industrial maintenance, renewable energy systems, engineering materials, production technology, occupational health and safety, project management, and entrepreneurship. Students also undertake supervised industrial training to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing plants, engineering workshops, garages, power generation facilities, and other industrial environments.
Upon successful completion, graduates will be qualified to work as Mechanical Engineering Technicians, Maintenance Technicians, Production Supervisors, Workshop Managers, Plant Operators, Fabrication Technicians, Quality Control Technicians, Automotive Service Technicians, and Project Assistants in government agencies, manufacturing industries, construction companies, energy and utility firms, automotive industries, engineering consultancy firms, NGOs, and private enterprises. Graduates may also establish their own engineering workshops and fabrication businesses or pursue further studies in mechanical engineering and related disciplines.
The programme is aligned with Uganda's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework and supports the country's National Development Plan by producing competent mechanical engineering professionals capable of driving industrialization, technological innovation, infrastructure development, and sustainable economic growth in Uganda.
