Koro Technical and Management InstituteThe National Diploma in Water Engineering at Koro Technical and Management Institute is a competency-based programme designed to equip students with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and professional competencies required to develop, operate, and maintain water supply, sanitation, irrigation, and wastewater management systems in Uganda. The programme prepares graduates to contribute to the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of sustainable water infrastructure that supports public health, environmental conservation, and socio-economic development. The curriculum combines engineering principles with extensive practical training in water resources management, hydrology, hydraulics, water treatment, wastewater engineering, plumbing systems, irrigation engineering, surveying, engineering drawing, environmental engineering, water quality analysis, computer-aided design (CAD), project management, occupational health and safety, and entrepreneurship. Students also undertake industrial training to gain hands-on experience in water utilities, construction projects, and environmental management organizations.Upon successful completion, graduates will be qualified to work as Water Engineering Technicians, Water Supply and Sanitation Officers, Water Treatment Plant Operators, Irrigation Technicians, Plumbing and Pipeline Supervisors, Hydrology Assistants, Environmental Technicians, Project Assistants, and Technical Officers in government ministries, local governments, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), water authorities, NGOs, consulting engineering firms, construction companies, and private enterprises. The programme also provides a strong foundation for further studies in water engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, and related disciplines. The programme is aligned with Uganda's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework and supports the country's National Development Plan by producing skilled professionals capable of improving access to safe water, sanitation services, climate-resilient water systems, and sustainable management of water resources.
